Radar Range: Sfuzzi to Relaunch in Dallas Next Month, Villa-O to Open 2nd Venue, too.

By Mike Hiller

This was the Sfuzzi in Vegas. The Addison store was much nicer.

It’s baaaack.

Remember Sfuzzi, the Cal-Ital chain of upscale eateries that began in Addison then grew to 20 locations across the U.S. by the mid-1990s before being shuttered? Sfuzzi co-founder Robert Colombo and his team (Villa-o, Trece) are re-launching the concept next month. The new Sfuzzi will be located east of the old Arcodoro-Pomodoro location, at Ruth Street and McKinney Avenue.

According to a Villa-O manager with intimate knowledge of the project, the new Sfuzzi will evoke the same Cal-Ital vibe as the old Sfuzzi, targeting a younger, hipper crowd than Vill-O. Sfuzzi will have a large outdoor patio to attract a lively bar scene, and stay open late. The menu focuses on pizzas and pastas.

According to the same source, Rubin Mendoza, formerly of the Mansion on Turtle Creek and Trece, and currently chef de cuisine at Villa-O, will head Sfuzzi’s kitchen.

But that’s not all.

Villa-O is expanding north. Though negotiations aren’t finalized, EscapeHatchDallas has learned that Villa-O is wrapping plans to bring the organocentric Italian eatery to the Galleria, with the old Sushi Samba space the rumored digs.

Sfuzzi is open. It’s across the street from the original location, 2533 McKinney Ave. at Routh. 214-953-0300

  2. Anonymous says:

The original SFuzzi started on McKinney Ave. I worked there as a waitress in it’s heyday

  3. Arminsky says:

Does anyone know when the grand opening is set for?

There ought to be a way to take down such comments. Especially if TheMan can’t even spell cheating.
I, too, worked for Steven Elsea, and classy is the first word I’d use to describe him. Secondly, with 3 years of working with him I never saw or heard anything that resembled a coke chasing cheating douche. This guy TheMan, (self proclaimed) obiviously has an axe to grind and has no class! Not everybody can carry themselves with grace, class and professionalism, as my former boss does…

Hey theman, I have worked for Steven Elsea, would gladly do so again, and he is a stand up guy. While he often flirts he always went home to his wife at the end the of night, and I honestly believe his flirting was more to serve the business than himself. You know to keep attractive women running around the place and attract the men too. And he is a far cry from a coke chasing douche as well. He always took care of his employees and guest, unless the employ was a dumb ass. I am guessing you might be an ex dumb ass employ whom he fired.

  6. TheMan says:

Current VP Steven Elsea is the biggest douche ever. They will fail if he stays on board. Between cheeting on his wife and chasing coke, he has no focus and no class.

  7. Amy S says:

Richard Chamberlain was part of the original group that founded Sfuzzi, they also had San Simeon restaurant and Club San Simeon. They hired Steve Singer to be chef.

  8. Mike Hiller says:

Hmmm. I’m stumped. Didn’t even try to Google it. Please tell me it wasn’t Sevy…

  9. Amy S says:

Trivia bonus question – Who was the founding chef of the original Sfuzzi chain?
