UPDATED: Crush Taco, from chef Mo Assi, brings chef-designed tacos to Frisco

<em>UPDATE 12/29: We’re hearing that Crush Taco is already changing course. Several readers have alerted us that Assi has veered away from-scratch cooking, relying instead on some purchased sauces and ingredients that didn’t just roll off the farm. That’s definitely not the approach that has served Velvet Taco so well. If you’ve been to Crush Taco, shoot us a note (or comment on our Facebook page) and let us know what you think — if you like it as much as these people.)

Offering a menu with the kinds of tacos you would make if you were a chef, former steakhouse chef Mo Assi is laying it on the line at Frisco’s new Crush Taco.

As we told you months ago, you shouldn’t expect corn shells filled with beef fajitas and beans and cheese. Assi takes the road blazed by Velvet Taco, opting instead for stuffing an array of global flavors inside sturdy tortillas. The menu romps through some delicious sounding taco fillings like chile-rubbed pork ribs with agave nectar and pickled jalapeños, cornflake-crusted shrimp spiked with sweet chiles and dynamite sauce, and caramelized cauliflower with pepitas and yogurt. You can also fill up on rotisserie chickens, chopped salads, street corn elotes, corn masa “fries” and tres leches cakes.

If you’re still one of the one-percenters who think there’s no good food north of LBJ Freeway, Mo Assi and Crush Taco have set out to prove –yet again– that you’re wrong, wrong, wrong.
