Austin City Taco Co. launches in Fort Worth with a menu from talented chef Juan Rodriguez

Good tacos are easy to come by all over DFW. But at Austin City Taco Co., a new Austin-inspired taqueria in Fort Worth’s Cultural District, cowtown chef Juan Rodriguez amps up the menu with tacos that make a cross-town drive worth the effort.

Remember how good Velvet Taco was when it first opened? This place seems to have recaptured some of that deliciousness.

Fire-roasted salsa, fresh guacamole, achiote-marinated roti chicken, bacon jam, serrano crema, even 12-hour oak-smoked brisket are just some of the ingredients that set Austin City Taco Co.’s menu apart.

Here are just a few of Rodriguez’s tacos:

  • The Go-To: Flame-cooked achiote-marinated rotisserie chicken, pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, and fresh jalapeño sauce in a corn tortilla
  • State Fair: Crispy fried chicken, house-diced potatoes, cheddar cheese, bacon jam, and buttermilk ranch in a flour tortilla
  • Al Pastor: Marinated pork, chopped onion, chopped pineapple, cilantro, fresh jalapeño sauce, and a lime wedge in a corn tortilla
  • The Bohemian: 12-hour oak-smoked chopped brisket, guacamole, queso fresco, shredded cabbage, and serrano crema in a corn tortilla
  • Revolution: 12-hour oak-smoked chopped brisket, fried onion strings, buttermilk ranch, and cilantro in a flour tortilla
  • Baja: Grilled gulf shrimp, shredded cabbage, queso fresco, cilantro, jalapeño-vinegar glaze, and a lime wedge in a corn tortilla
  • Midnight Craving: Scrambled eggs, chopped brisket, diced potatoes, queso fresco, bacon jam, and buttermilk ranch in a flour tortilla

When is the last time you saw taco ingredients cooking in a J&R wood-fired smoker or over the hot coals of a J&R rotisserie? You will here, all of it tucked inside a bright, upbeat, contemporary space trimmed with white-washed walls, exposed brick, wood and metal siding, rustic wood posts and beams and concrete floors.

I love that Austin City Taco Co. and its owner, Cameron Powell, approach their tacos with a fine-dining mentality, relying on good quality ingredients, skillful preparations and well-made equipment to turn out top-notch food.
