Winding Through Alabama’s Golf Trail

I’m only halfway through my swing through the northern part of Alabama’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, and I couldn’t be more amazed.  Take a look at this photo, shot on one of the 54 holes at Grand National golf course in the town of Opelika, and tell me there’s not a more perfect place for a golfer to spend a fall afternoon.  Who needs to leaf-peep in New England when Alabama is just two hours away?

The Trail consists of 26 courses scattered across 11 locations throughout the state, all designed by golf course architect Robert Trent Jones.  As I’m discovering, though, there’s plenty of good golf courses that aren’t part of the trail.  I’ll have more to share with you about this– along with more splendid photos–as I continue my journey over the next few days.
