Helping Foster Children in Emergency Shelters this Christmas
A good friend of EscapeHatch, PR Maven Andrea Alcorn, sends this:
200 children of Wednesday’s Child who have no moms or dads nor visit from Santa this Christmas (these are the kids that don’t have foster families yet) will be treated to an unusual Christmas event this Sunday from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House, 5251 Spring Valley Road. The children range in ages from infants to teens.
As an adopted person, I know personally that this event will create lifetime memories. Some grow up with no photograph at Christmas because they never have a family to take to a photograph with nor a real visit from Santa.
Twenty-six stations have been put together where the children can go shopping and participate in Christmas activities taking up the entire downstairs and upstairs of Del Frisco’s. The stations include “Select Your Own Backpack” station, Make An Angel Ornament station, Have Your Picture Made With Santa Claus station , Be a CEO business card station where teens receive personalized business cards, New Blanket station, Coloring Book station, Wal Mart Gift Card Station, McDonalds Gift Card station, Select a Hoodie/Jacket station, Smile Station with toothbrushes and toothpaste, Build Your Own Teddy Bear Station, Bling Station with jewelry and hair accessories, Decorate Your Own Cookie station, Select Your Own Pajamas station, Face Painting Station, Meet a Real Dallas Cowboy station, Socks, Gloves, Caps Station, Make Your Own Stocking Station, School Supply Station, Face Painting, Select Your Own Blanket Station, and more. Christmas Carols will be performed by Pat Peterson (warm up singer for John Mellancamp.) Hamburgers, barbecue, pizza, cupcakes, dippin dots, fruit cups, sub sandwiches and chocolate machines will flow.
Headed up by the Friedman & Feiger Foundation, many area businesses are donating time, money and services to make the event possible. Three hundred people are volunteering to help. Dee Lincoln and Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House are donating the use of the entire restaurant.
Being adopted, I realize the life-changing impact that this event will have on each and every one of these children and the enormous sense of being blessed that families seeing this story will feel.
