U.S. Passport Fees Set to Jump July 13

U.S. Passport fees are set to jump dramatically next week, on July 13, 2010.

New passports are increasing from $100 to $135.  Passport renewals will go from $75 to $110, a 47 percent increase.  These represent the third increase in the last five years.  Also new is that frequent travelers who need to add pages to an existing passport will now be charged $82 for this service, which is currently free — but only until July 13.

If your passport has a few years remaining on it but the pages are heavy with stamps, now is the time to request extra pages.  Here’s the current (and expiring) schedule of fees. Here are the new rates, effective July 13, 2010.
