Tom Thumb to close its Highland Park Village store

Tom Thumb will close its Highland Park Village grocery store sometime in the next 12 months, a rumor widely circulated for, well, forever but finally confirmed by Maria Halkias today. 18,500 square feet just isn’t enough space for a grocer today. Tom Thumb’s parent company, Safeway, is for sale, with rumors that Kroger, HEB or Market Street have expressed an interest in some of Tom Thumb’s existing Dallas area stores.
