Bob’s Steak & Chop House was born 26 years ago today – here’s some background
Congratulations to Bob Sambol, who is celebrating his restaurant’s 26th birthday today. Readers may recall that Bob took back control of the original Bob’s Steak & Chop House on Lemmon Avenue restaurant earlier this year.
What you may not recall, though, is that prior to Bob’s, that location opened first as the original Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse. Yep, that one. The original. With Dale Walmsted and Dee Lincoln in charge.
When DF moved to larger digs on Spring Valley Avenue – in the space that is now Al Biernat’s – Sambol partnered with Dale Walmsted for a brief run in the old DF space, Re-branding it as “Bob and Del’s Steak & Chop House.”
Six months later, Dale was out, and Bob took over the space, rebranding it as Bob’s.
Yep, Dallas is a steakhouse town. In fact, I wrote in USA Today that it’s the king of steakhouse towns.
As Bob likes to remind me, “No one says, ‘Congratulations! Let’s go celebrate with chicken.'”
Happy birthday, Bob!
