City Cafe, LUCK and Casa Komali are out of business

Three long-tenured Dallas restaurants have unexpectedly closed up shop.

After 35 years, City Cafe closed its main restaurant and dining room, but its casual to-go shop on Lovers Lane in Dallas and its catering business will continue.

Casa Komali, on Cole Avenue, had been rumored to be struggling for a while, so this one isn’t a big surprise. A note posted to their Facebook page announced the news:

“It is with a heavy heart that we have made the difficult decision to permanently close Casa Komali as of January 12, 2020.

“While we have enjoyed serving the Dallas community over the last five years, we felt the timing was right to say goodbye. Each and every guest was a part of the Komali family and will be forever grateful for your support over the years.”

Interesting that their web page still lists Hugo Galvan as their chef; maybe that lack of attention to detail is part of the reason they struggled.

In Trinity Groves, the rabbit foot ran out of mojo this week for LUCK (Local Urban Craft Kitchen), the casual beer and sando joint that’s been a stalwart for the restaurant incubator project for more than six years. Odd that just a week ago, LUCK was one of the restaurants pre-announced for the Trinity Groves-led restos tagged as a vendor in the new DFW Airport terminal F, which could open in 2024. Also notable: LUCK’s founding chef, Daniel Pittman, exited the group last summer. Maybe he knew something was going down?
