Addison’s annual Oktoberfest has been canceled. Is the 2020 Chefs for Farmers food and wine festival still on?

Add Addison’s annual Oktoberfest celebration to the list of DFW fall festivals that have been canceled this year for COVID-19 concerns.

The September festival’s organizers announced the cancelation Tuesday. The multi-day German festival has drawn both local and international crowds of up to 50,000 people.

“Addison Oktoberfest is a beloved event where tens of thousands of people look forward to gathering each year in dirndls and lederhosen to enjoy each other’s company, raise a bier and say Prost,” said Addison Special Events Director Jasmine Lee. “Due to the close contact caused by the inherently social nature of the festival, it would not be safe to hold such a large gathering this year.”

The local Oktoberfest cancelation follows last month’s news that the 2020 Fort Worth Food and Wine Festival would be refashioned into a series of virtual events and last week’s announcements that the 2020 State Fair of Texas was also cancelled.

So what about the annual Chefs for Farmers food and wine festival, slated for early November? CFF founder Iris Midler says organizers and sponsors are closely monitoring the Covid infection slope, and weighing options (and safety concerns) with public health experts.
