Davy Rodgers set to open his own restaurant and bar, Mayer’s Garden, on Henderson Ave. this fall

Davy Rodgers plans to open Mayer’s Garden, a neighborhood restaurant and craft cocktail bar in the former Jakes Burgers & Beer spot at 2522 N. Henderson and Belmont Ave. this fall.

Austin Rodgers, one of Davy’s parents, signed the lease.

Davy, known around town for his hospitable demeanor, dreamy brown eyes, and impossibly soft underbelly, indicated with his eyes that he plans to be a regular presence at Mayer’s Garden, welcoming guests, accepting kisses, shaking hands and eating whatever you can’t finish.

Because that’s what golden retrievers do.

Davy, of course, is a two-year-old golden retriever. He resides with Austin Rodgers and Havana Hernandez, the married couple who also owns the popular Alamo Club restaurant and bar on Lower Greenville Ave.

In return for signing the lease, Davy allows the Rodgers to feed him, brush him, bathe him and pamper him.

I’ve met Davy. He’s worth it.

Mayer’s Garden nods to the name of the first licensed bar in Dallas, which was located in Deep Ellum. Davy’s eyes say Mayer’s Garden will prominently feature cocktails (as does Alamo Club), plus weekend brunches and game day socializing.
