New restaurant The Mexican brings heritage recipes from Monterrey to the Dallas Design District this week


A modern Mexican restaurant from a team of seasoned restaurateurs and chefs opens this week in the Design District.

Rich Hicks, who founded Tin Star and the burger chain Mooyah, has teamed with former North Italia veteran Nic Villareal, Boudreaux’s Cajun Kitchen vet Todd Istre, and Monterrey MX businessman Roberto González Alcalá (whose family owned a multinational corn flour and tortilla factory in Mexico) on the The Mexican, The restaurant is slated to open Thursday, March 10.

Chefs Rodrigo Lomeli , a native of Monterrey, and Christopher Tunnel, a Vegas hotel culinary hotel vet, run the kitchen.

The new 320-seat restaurant will offer heritage recipes from Northern Mexico, primarily spotlighting Monterrey. The space includes an outdoor patio and cigar lounge.
