New BBQ joint from industry vets brings the smoke

A new Richardson barbecue spot in Richardson backed by restaurant industry vets is full of promise.

The Toddzilla

Open only a few days, 42 BBQ feels like it will grow into the kind of brisket-and-ribs place we all want in our neighborhood.

The lunch-only menu features Central Texas style ‘cue slow-smoked over hardwoods, plus twists like brisket chili, fried oyster po boys and a $17 sandwich called The Todzilla, a two-handed monster constructed with sliced brisket, pulled pork, link sausage and slaw.

The folks behind 42 BBQ were once c-suite execs at Uncle Julio’s. Next in their plate: a modern Tex-Mex joint that infuses smoked ingredients from neighboring 42 into many dishes.
