California salads and picnic bowls lead this week’s marquee restaurant openings in DFW

You know the work lunch dilemma: order something fast, cheap and not particularly healthy, or get something cooked fresh that takes half your lunch hour. The folks behind Sweetgreen launched their healthy salad and bowl concept to solve that equation. Now they’ve expanded their footprint with a third Dallas-area restaurant, opening a Sweeetgreen at 6400 Gaston Ave., in Lakewood, today.

Outside, you’ll find a large, wood-cladded patio. Inside, a neon “Pick Me Up” sign for digital order for pick up. MadexMom, a Dallas-based artist who focuses on bright, mixed-media illusionary work, created a series of four pieces based on Texas seasonal produce (you can meet her there today, from 6-8pm).

Sweetgreen’s late summer menu is worth a visit just for the Elote Bowl, a Summer BBQ Salad made with summer picnic ingredients, and a side of Roasted Corn + Peppers.

For each bowl sold today, Sweetgreen will donate a bowl to Brighter Bites, a local non-profit that provides groceries and nutrition education to local individuals and families in need.
