Barrel & Bones BBQ and new Tex-Mex called Black Agave are headed to splashy new DFW mixed use development

Omar Adame, the chef of Barrel & Bones Craft Bar and Smokehouse, tells me he plans to soon open a fourth location of the barbecue restaurant and bar at Mercer Boardwalk. The high-profile, mixed-use project developed by Centurion American Development Group sits at one of the region’s most visible locations: the southeast intersection of Luna Road and I-635 in Farmers Branch.

Adame and GM Thomas Archer also say they’ll be debuting another new concept adjacent to Barrel & Bones, a Tex-Mex restaurant specializing in mezcals called Black Agave Cocina y Cantina. The two restaurants will share a common kitchen and a new wood smoker that will function as a commissary for B&B’s catering operations and restaurant locations in Carrollton, The Colony and North Dallas.

That’s good news for residents near Mercer Boardwalk, which originally slotted Centurion-owned restaurants in the development.

We’re fans of Barrel & Bones — especially their cocktail program, which is among the best in the area. And we’ll likely be fans of Black Agave, which promises family-style meals and stellar cocktails too.
