DFW Central Market stores are doing something extra special with fresh tuna this weekend

Central Market has an incredible deal this week on fresh bluefin tuna.

Ross Carrol, the buyer in charge of seafood for Central Market stores, told me all DFW stores are getting several hundred pounds of whole bluefin tuna beginning September 19. Carrol says the fish are speared off the coast of Spain and properly handled, arriving in DFW CM stores within a day or so of being caught, iced and packed.

The kicker? The loins are served as Frenched chops and sold at a remarkable $24.99 a pound. Even restaurants pay more for this fish than CM’s sale price.

On Saturday, September 21, around 10 AM, expert fishmongers will be on hand at the Plano and Lovers Lane stores to break down whole 500-600 pound bluefin tunas.

This is a deal that shouldn’t be missed (and neither should be the half-dozen fresh PEI oysters, packed in a nice wooden gift box, for just $6.

Carrol, the seafood buyer, say he’ll be dry-aging bluefin tuna loins for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, though supply will be more limited.
