Taste on the Tarmac Returns to Galaxy FBO on April 11
Taste Addison, an event that has celebrated Addison’s culinary scene for over 30 years, is set to kick off its annual festivities with Taste on the Tarmac on Friday, April 11. This preview event combines food and community at Galaxy FBO at Addison Airport, from 5 to 9 p.m. Presented by Oncor, the evening aims to support the Metrocrest Services Sack Summer Hunger Program.
Attendees can expect a range of bites from Chamberlain’s Steak & Fish and a student culinary competition featuring high school students from Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. These students will compete to create their best Taste Bite, a sample-size dish using at least 50% pantry-donated ingredients, challenging their culinary creativity and resourcefulness.
Guests will vote for the People’s Choice Award, and top entries will be judged by mayors from the Metrocrest region, including Addison’s Bruce Arfsten, Farmers Branch’s Terry Lynne, Carrollton’s Steve Babick, and Coppell’s Wes Mays. The winning team will have the opportunity to present their dish at Taste Addison, set for April 25-27 in Addison Circle Park. Recipes for all the student-created dishes will be available at the Metrocrest Services Food Pantry during the summer.
Chamberlain’s Steak & Fish will provide additional bites paired with beverages, and live entertainment will enhance the atmosphere. Tickets are priced at $75 per person and can be purchased online.
Metrocrest Services, which will benefit from the event, focuses on assisting individuals, families, and seniors in crisis situations, working towards stability and a brighter future. Their Sack Summer Hunger Program provides nutritious meals for children who qualify for free or reduced-price meals during the school year, with weekly meal bags distributed during the summer by volunteers and church partners.
Tracy Eubanks, CEO of Metrocrest Services, emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “The enthusiasm and initiative of these young chefs as they help share our mission with the community is inspiring. We appreciate their participation and that of the Town of Addison in addressing the needs of students facing food insecurity during the summer months.”
