Avra Brings Mediterranean Elegance to Dallas

We’ve learned exclusively that Avra Estiatorio will open its Dallas doors on April 9, bringing the celebrated Greek restaurant group to Texas for the first time. The Uptown debut at The Crescent marks the fourth Avra, joining locations in New York, Beverly Hills, and Miami, and arrives as the company celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The restaurant covers nearly 14,000 square feet and it’s a stunner. Designed by NYC’s Rockwell Group, the interiors evoke the Mediterranean with white stone, marble and wood set beneath soaring ceilings. Olive trees rise out of the floor. At the center is the Conservatory, a glass-walled garden filled with greenery that softens the space and floods it with natural light. The effect is both transportive and urbane, like the Greek islands by way of Uptown Dallas.

Avra’s reputation rests on seafood, and the Dallas menu follows that tradition. At the entrance, a market-style display of whole fish and shellfish sets the stage: branzino, red snapper, Dover sole, langoustines and Mediterranean rarities such as fagri and lithrini. Guests can choose their catch, which the kitchen will grill over charcoal, bake in salt, or prepare raw as carpaccio or ceviche.

There are other signatures as well. The Avra Chips—paper-thin slices of zucchini and eggplant fried until crisp—arrive stacked like a sculpture. Traditional dips made from family recipes, grilled lamb chops and prime steaks round out the menu. Nearly every dish is finished with Avra’s own olive oil, pressed from groves in the Peloponnese.

Service at the early preview was polished and exacting. With its size, design, and culinary focus, Avra Dallas is set to become one of the city’s most striking dining rooms. On April 9, Dallas diners will finally get their taste of Mediterranean luxury, delivered with precision.
