Shake Shack Tests a French Dip Steak Sandwich Across Dallas
<p>The folks at Shake Shack have rolled out a limited-time test sandwich in the Dallas–Fort Worth area—and it’s nothing like their usual potato-bun burgers. Meet the French Dip Angus Steak Sandwich, a chef-crafted riff on the classic French dip that puts premium ingredients front and center.
The sandwich features herb-roasted 100 percent Angus steak, served on a butter-toasted six-inch hoagie roll—marking the first time the brand has served a sandwich on anything other than its signature potato bun. It’s layered with melty Gruyère cheese and roasted garlic aioli, paired with a red-wine and rosemary au jus for dipping and a horseradish-cream sauce on the side. Together, they deliver the cozy, craveable flavor of a modern tavern meal, reframed through Shake Shack’s polished, fast-casual lens.
At $12.99, the French Dip Angus Steak Sandwich is available at a dozen DFW-area Shacks: Plano, Dallas Uptown, Preston Royal, Southlake, Addison, Las Colinas, the Stockyards, Old Town, NorthPark Center, Park & Preston, West Bend, McKinney, and Grand Prairie. It’s a regional test, so Dallas-area diners get the first taste before Shake Shack decides whether to take it national.
The sandwich also debuts alongside new crispy beer-battered onion rings, which make an ideal sidecar to the French dip’s buttery richness. Between the steak, the Gruyère, and the dip-worthy broth, it’s an elevated take on comfort food—fast-casual style.
For Dallas food lovers, this test run is more than just another menu item. It’s a sign that Shake Shack is continuing to push the boundaries of what a fast-casual chain can offer, experimenting with bolder flavors and textures without losing the polish that made the brand famous in the first place.
They’ve quickly become a new favorite of the entire Hatch HQ team (though we’d never turn down one of their excellent burgers or shakes, either). Thanks to Shake Shack for sending us a gift card so we could explore the menu—and this new sandwich—on our own terms.
Get it while it lasts, and don’t forget to ask for both dipping sauces. It’s the kind of menu moment that reminds you innovation sometimes comes with a side of horseradish.
