Annual “Power of Pie” fundraiser gets you Thanksgiving pie while powering Meals on Wheels, VNA programs

Why bake a pie when you can buy one and do good at the same time this Thanksgiving?

Now in its seventh year, the VNA’s Power of Pie fundraiser lets you buy pumpkin and pecan pies baked by the some of Dallas’ top pastry chefs and bakers for just $25 each. Not into pie? There’s also pumpkin bread for just $12. One hundred percent of the money goes to VNA Meals on Wheels, Hospice and Palliative Care.

All the sweets are baked and donated by the pastry teams at 3015 at Trinity Groves, Bisous-Bisous Patisserie, Bresnan Bread and Pastry, Brookhollow Golf Club, Cafe Momentum, Collin College, Empire Baking Company, Flora Street Café, Haute Sweets Patisserie, Knife, Lakewood Country Club, Norma’s Cafe, Oddfellows, Tarrant County College, The Preston of the Park Cities, The Sweet Life Chef,  Uncle Willie’s Pies and Wolfgang Puck Catering.

To get one, you have to order online at www.powerofpie.org by Monday, November 18, then select your preferred date and pick-up location in Dallas, Collin and Denton counties; You’ll pick up the pies or pumpkin breads on November 26th or 27th, depending on your selected location.

If you don’t like pie or will be out of town for the holiday, there’s an option to purchase a “zero calorie pie” for $25; that’s a $25 donation, no pie.

“For many of our clients, the holidays are difficult. I’m grateful to the members of the culinary community who donate their time and talent to this beloved event, as well as our generous supporters for ensuring that the holidays are a special and memorable time for our clients,” says Katherine Krause, President and CEO of Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (VNA), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that helps older adults age with dignity and independence at home.
