Dallas loses its only Four Seasons Resort, but a new luxury operator is on the way

The Four Seasons Resort and Club at Las Colinas has been sold, and the new owners will move the property out of the Four Seasons portfolio. The Four Seasons flag will fly over the 431-room property until December 31, when a new management company takes over. The news has not yet been made public.

The sale marks the first time since the resort opened in 1986 that DFW will be without a Four Seasons hotel.

The Sports Club adjacent to the hotel, which opened in 1983 and is owned by a group separate from the hotel, is negotiating with the new hotel owners to offer its club members a set of hotel, golf, restaurant and spa discounts similar to what’s already offered.

The Four Seasons’ two golf courses will move to the Troon Golf portfolio and will no longer be managed by the hotel directly. Troon is the world’s largest golf club management company, with more than 650 golf courses spanning 45 states and 30 different countries. Its golf properties include Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Florida; La Cantera in San Antonio; and Kapalua on Maui.

I agreed not to reveal the new owners or the new flag just yet, but it’s another notable luxury brand with golf resorts and marquee restaurants in their portfolio.

The upside to the sale? The new owners plan to invest mightily in a renovation. On the hotel side, expect a full facelift in all guest rooms and meeting facilities, a new lobby bar and lounge, and a new marquee restaurant with a well-regarded, nationally recognizable chef in charge.

On the resort side, the new owners have earmarked millions for a new golf practice range, pickle ball courts, tennis court upgrades, a clubhouse and the restaurant makeover.

Though Dallas and Las Colinas are losing the notable Four Seasons brand this year, the flag will be return; a new 250-room Four Seasons hotel is under construction in Uptown Dallas at Cedar Springs Road and Dickason Ave.
