Southlake finally gets excellent frozen Margaritas and modern Tex-Mex with the arrival of Mesero restaurant

 

Restaurateur and all-around good guy Trey Dyer has opened a Southlake edition of his Mesero restaurants. The indoor-outdoor space is number seven for the fast-growing chain of modern, Mexican-inspired restaurants.

Airy, colorful, and light-filled with one of the area’s most comfortable covered patios, this new Mesero provides a sharp contrast to the former Howard Wang space, which closed during the Dark Years of Covid. Inside, there’s a semi-open kitchen and nearly 200 seats, with another 60 on the patio. As different as the space looks, the menu is straight-up Mesero, with queso fundido, guacamole, big salads, burgers, enchiladas and tacos with fillings like brisket, carnitas and seafood. Tequilas and mezcals fuel most of the cocktails (and the customers), including DFW’s best frozen Margaritas (the OTR ‘ritas are also pretty swell).

The restaurant, located at The Shops at Southlake, is open daily for lunch and dinner.

“I think this is my favorite location,” Dyer said, “just like all the other ones.”
