DFW Central Market stores Celebrate Hatch Chile Season with Roasting Events and Seasonal Delights

The heady aroma of freshly roasted Hatch chiles is filling the air at Central Market stores across Dallas as the Hatch Chile Fest returns. This annual event, which runs from August 2 to 22, celebrates the unique and flavorful Hatch chile peppers, sourced directly from the Hatch Valley in New Mexico.

Central Market, known for its gourmet offerings and culinary events, is turning up the heat again this year. Shoppers can watch the peppers roasting in steel drums, a tradition that has become a hallmark of the festival. Roasting brings out the peppers’ smoky, rich flavor. Roasted peppers are available for purchase both fresh and roasted.

Central Market stores are also showcasing a variety of seasonal products featuring Hatch chiles. From Hatch queso chicken mac and cheese casserole to Hatch pepper sausage kolaches, the store’s chefs have crafted an array of dishes that highlight the versatility of the pepper. Other featured items include Hatch crab cakes, twice-baked potatoes with Hatch chiles, and even brioche with roasted Hatch peppers.

We had the opportunity to sample a number of these products at a preview event and came away mightily impressed. Particular favorites included CM’s Hatch popcorn, salsas and blue corn masa / chocolate chip cookies. Though unrelated to Hatch peppers, CMs fresh salmon imported from Western Ross fisheries also stood out as a highlight.
