H-E-B Expands in North Texas: New Joe V’s Smart Shop opening in Irving

San Antonio-based grocer H-E-B is expanding its footprint in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with the opening of a new Joe V’s Smart Shop in Irving next year.

This will be the third location of Joe V’s Smart Shop in the Metroplex, following the successful openings in southern Dallas and East Dallas.

The new store will be located at the intersection of State Highway 183 and Story Road, occupying a 57,920-square-foot space that most recently housed a 24 Hour Fitness gym. A spokesperson from H-E-B LP confirmed the site and the plans were detailed in a state filing on August 8, 2024. Renovations are expected to begin next March and are projected to be completed by November. The estimated cost of the renovations is around $10 million.

Joe V’s Smart Shop is H-E-B’s value-focused grocery brand, designed to offer customers high-quality products at low prices. The brand achieves this by purchasing full truckloads and shipping directly to stores, thereby eliminating warehouse costs. This strategy allows Joe V’s to focus on high-demand items and keep prices competitive.

The new Irving location is part of H-E-B’s broader strategy to expand its presence in North Texas, a region experiencing significant population growth. H-E-B has been steadily increasing its footprint in the Metroplex, with recent openings in Frisco and plans for more stores in the future. The company aims to serve all of North Texas over time, catering to the diverse needs of the region’s residents.

The opening of Joe V’s Smart Shop in Irving is expected to bring a variety of benefits to the local community. In addition to providing affordable groceries, the store will create job opportunities and contribute to the local economy. The store’s convenient location and focus on value will likely attract a wide range of customers, from budget-conscious shoppers to those looking for high-quality products at reasonable prices.
