Checking In/Checking Out: Golf at Barnbougle Lost Farm in Tasmania

It’s been a busy two weeks at EscapeHatch World HQ: LA, Melbourne, Tasmania. A whole lot of eating. Even more drinking. And still more golf.

The Americans are in for a real treat when they play the Aussies for the President’s Cup this November. The golf tournament will be held at Royal Melbourne Golf Club, a 1920s classic designed by Allister Mackenzie. The course is often ranked among the world’s top 6 golf courses. Me? I’d push it back a notch so I could fit in Barnbougle Lost Farm, a new layout on the northeast coast of Tasmania that’s about to set the golf world atwitter (If you follow my tweets, you’ve read a lot about my visit).

I’ll have more to say about Barnbougle Lost Farm and its highly ranked sibling, Barnbougle Dunes, shortly. But for now, here’s a quick glimpse of Lost Farm, a true links golf course, shot on my iPhone and uploaded just now. (The owner, Richard Sattler, says it’s called Lost Farm because the sand dunes eventually swallowed a farm that used to occupy the same land. Or it might be that cows used to get lost in the dunes. Who knows…these Aussies make up lots of stuff.)
