See Mario Batali, Guy Fieri at Texas Motor Speedway/NASCAR Tomorrow
Mario Batail, That Croc-loving, shorts-wearing, pony-tailed chef, will be in town this weekend, cooking Iron Chef style on Saturday, Novemeber 6.
Batali will be joined by the Food Networks’ Guy Fieri and Fort Worth chef Tim Love in a competition at Texas Motor Speedway to benefit the Speedway Children’s Charities-Texas and the Mario Batali Foundation. It’s all part of the AAA Texas 500 NASCAR triple-header race weekend.
Texas Motor Speedway is calling it Asphalt Chef, a three-team showdown styled after Iron Chef. The grilling showdown between the teams of Mario Batali-Jimmie Johnson, Guy Fieri-Kurt Busch and Tim Love-Foreigner lead singer Kelly Hansen. The Asphalt Chef evening also will feature a few dishes from each celebrity chef and specialty spirits. The charity event will raise money for Speedway Children’s Charities-Texas and the Mario Batali Foundation. The event is open to the public (tickets are here), from 6-9:30 p.m. at the Lone Star Tower pool area. The Asphalt Chef competition is slated to run from about 6:30 til 7:45. Foreigner’s Hansen performing acoustic versions of a couple of the 70s band’s hits.
From TMS: On race day for the AAA Texas 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race – Batali will play host to Mario Batali’s Ultimate Tailgate Party that also will be held poolside at the clubhouse. The party, which will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. CT, will feature complimentary food from various major restaurants in the Metroplex as well as wine, beer and spirits. Batali, Fieri and Love also will conduct cooking demonstrations followed by a Q&A session with the guests.
A combination ticket is available for both Asphalt Chef and Mario Batali’s Ultimate Tailgate Party at $350. Individual tickets are $250 for Asphalt Chef and $150 for the Mario Batali’s Ultimate Tailgate Party. Capacity is limited for both events. The events benefit Speedway Children’s Charities and the Mario Batali Foundation and are tax deductible.
