Whats New, what’s next, what just happened: Christmas Wrap Up, plus Gemma opens today
The Hatch World Headquarters went dark for a few days, jetting off to Hawaii, Nevis and balmy parts in between. Now we’re back, working the mines. While you were catnapping, here’s the good stuff from the last few days.
BonChon Korean fried chicken, which we first discussed here, opened then closed then opened again. It’s crispy fried chicken. From a chain restaurant. Glad to have them in town, but really, it’s just another commodity fried chicken chain. They’re located at 5500 Greenville Avenue. Here’s how they broke the news:
Sfuzzi, the bellini and pizza place in Uptown closed then didn’t close but plans to close in January. The Las Colinas location, owned by a different set of investors, will remain open.
The Pearl Cup, a noted coffee import from Austin, closed.
Primo’s Tex-Mex in Uptown, which served the worst Tex-Mex food in Dallas, has closed. Seems the music did them in. The Garland location remains open.
Gemma opens tonight. Lots of false starts, but tonight is the night. Early reports from a couple of Hatch readers who attended a friends-and-family preview, say it is good but not quite great.
Chino Chinatown and AmberJax seafood restaurant have debuted at Trinity Groves. I’ve had terrific meals at Casa Rubia and Resto Gastro Bistro, so I can definitely recommend you head there. Kudos to Casa Rubia’s John Badoin, Omar Flores and Cody Sharp, and to Resto’s DJ Quintanilla and Linda Mazzei.
