Dallas restaurateur Greg Katz opens Beverley’s, his first solo venture

Last October, restaurant guy Greg Katz told us he planned to open his first solo venture, Beverley’s, in March. He made good on his pledge.

Named after his mother, Beverley’s has opened at 3215 N. Fitzhugh Ave., in the former BJ’s NXS bar space near Central Expressway. You’d never recognize the place.

It’s dinner-only for now, but Katz told us last October that he wanted Beverley’s to be an all-day bistro with a neighborhood feel. So far, early reviews have been positive, citing Beverley’s late night menu and potent cocktails.

Neither of those should surprise you, given that the consulting chef is Josh Sutcliff, most recently the chef at Mirador. (Sutcliff insists he’s “just consulting,” so don’t call him Beverley’s chef.)

The drinks come from popular barman Ravinder Singh, who many of you may best remember as the mix master at Rapscallion, but he’s also worked at other venues.

So who’s Beverley’s full-time culinary wizard? Maybe it’s Katz. He’s no stranger to the kitchen, having worked for several years as a cook under Dean Fearing at The Mansion, then at gigs with Nick Badovinus and at NYC’s Carlyle and Il Mulino.

For now, the menu at Beverley’s is a Katz-Sutcliff collaboration. But don’t look for it online here or here. For now, you’re just going to have to check it out in person.
