West Texas vibes, killer elotes, smoked brisket tacos are winners at this Las Colinas restaurant

Verdict: Muy sabroso

Open nearly four years, Las Colinas’ Texican Court hotel and its Two Mules Cantina restaurant and bar still strut with swagger and confidence, just like they did when we first visited.

It’s exactly what a casual spot needs to thrive in Irving’s crowded Toyota Music Factory entertainment district. Swimming upstream through that crowd one recent night, we needed tacos and Margaritas.

Two Mules obliged.

The tacos – brisket numbers slow-cooked on the restaurants’s outdoor smoker – and a couple of jalapeno-spiked ‘Ritas cap a simple menu that doesn’t stray far from the classic nachos/tacos/enchiladas Tex-Mex playbook.

Our server called an audible and delivered a fantastic plate of elotes and achiote-spiced pulled pork.

We’ll be back for more.

The busy dining room – done up in dessert pastels, honeyed lighting and woven textiles – could have been plucked from West Texas and plopped down in Las Colinas.

After a couple of Two Mule’s jalapeno Margaritas, we felt like we might’ve been, too.
