Bottle Rocket: Sommelier Jason Hisaw on McPherson Cellars’ Grenache-Syrah Rosé
Summer is officially here. Well, according to the temperature outside it’s been here for a month already.
So while you’re firing up those grills and eating lighter, why not splash your glass with a Texas Rosé?
McPherson Cellars Winery in Lubbock is producing a Rosé of Grenache and Syrah that will give any Rhone Rosé a run for its money. It’s a wine that screams with tart cranberries, strawberries, and bright raspberries, and it craves being paired with grilled foods. I recently paired it up with some quickly seared ahi tuna steaks and grilled pineapple, and, in my humble opinion, it was love. Winemaker Kim McPherson has been producing Texas wines in his Lubbock winery since 1979, and his commitment to Rhone and Italian varietals show up in each sip of his wines.
A delicious Texas Rosé, an amazing meal, and a bright summer Texas sunset– summer is officially here.
I picked up this wine at Central Market for $12.99 a bottle, and there are definitely a few more bottles of it in my fridge for the next grill and chill.
