Radar Range: Amazing Brownies from Love Puppies, Now at Torchy’s Tacos
If you’re looking for a holiday treat for your foodie friend who’s hard to shop for, here’s one that just can’t miss: Head to Torchy’s Taco’s, the Dallas outpost of the hit taqueria from Austin, and pick up a dozen Love Puppies.
These little brownies from Austin baker and CIA grad Joel Haro are amazing: intensely chocolatey, gooey, packed with cool flavors like mint, peanut butter, and chocolate chips. The store sells three flavors of the brownies–double chocolate, junior mint, and peanut butter. All three are worth every cent of their $2.25 price. These little Love Puppies have got to be the best brownies ever sold in a taqeuria. If you fall for themn–and you will–you can order some of the other flavors directly from the bakery. While I’m hooked on the peanut butter version–ac hocolate brownie packed with broken Reese’s PB cups mixed in–I’m weirdly attracted to the brownie infused with guajillo chiles that smacks you upside the head with an unexpected, low burn of spicy heat.
Haro emailed me that expansion beyond Torchy’s is in the works:
“Right now LovePuppies Brownies are exclusively in Torchy’s Tacos in Dallas however expanding into more retail locations in the city is a goal for the new year. As we grow in Texas, bakery expansion is also on my radar. It’s basic supply and demand; as the people of Dallas demand LovePuppies Brownies I am more than happy to supply.”
