Taste of the NFL on Sunday Night was the place to be
As expected, the place to be Sunday night was the Glass Cactus at the Gaylord Texan Resort, where nearly 800 guests dined, bid and celebrated at the annual Taste of the NFL fundraiser. Last year, 12 NFL teams hosted similar events in their local communities, raising more than a million dollars for local hunger relief programs–an amount equal to what was raised at a single Ft Worth event last February, the site of the national Taste of the NFL event at Super Bowl XLV.
Chef Kent Rathbun of Abacus led the food forces, a team of nineteen DFW chefs who each prepared a different dish for patrons to sample. Restaurant participants this year included Rathbun’s Abacus/Jasper empire (serving buffalo sliders), Bolla (short ribs), Central 214 (Blythe Beck served a bbq beef taco with crab slaw), Craft Dallas (escargot with green garlic soup), Fogo de Chao (picanha), Nick and Sams Steakhouse (No Samir but there were Kobe beef brisket sliders), Suze (chicken in adobo), Nana (Tony Bambacci served shrimp ceviche with cilantro sorbet–weird but magically delicious), Oceanaire (tuna tartare), Del Frisco’s Steakhouse (David Holben’s prime strips with grits), Pappas Bros. Steakhouse (Corey Groome served Lobster bisque, the featured soup of the day), Shinsei (Kobe beef potstickers), Whiskey Cake Kitchen (TJ Lengnick’s mustardy deviled eggs with maple bacon), and items from Frosted Art Bakery and the Gaylord’s restaurants.
In addition to tickets, money was raised through a silent auction and individual donations.
