What comes to mind when you hear the name Ruthie?

Perhaps the women’s basketball player? Or, maybe your grandma who baked pies and sat them on the window sill? Well, it doesn’t matter. Whatever it is, Ruthie’s Rolling Cafes will leave a lasting impression. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to the Ruthie’s food truck, but after sampling five sandwiches from a few of Ruthie’s trucks, I was  hooked. Never thought I’d be  Facebook friends with a food truck.

Ashlee Hunt Kleinert, the owner of Ruthie’s, launched her first food truck, specializing in grilled cheese sandwiches, after falling for the idea in Phoenix at a special events conference in 2011. Why grilled cheese? That’s what food trucks in other big cities were doing. Successfully. Besides, who doesn’t like a good grilled cheese? A year later, Ruthie’s rolled out a Cheesesteak Café truck, which became a big hit with the SMU crowd (who first suggested she delve into cheesesteaks).

I also loved The Boss – smoky, tender BBQ brisket layered with sharp cheddar cheese and tucked inside toasted sourdough bread. I licked my fingers. It was that good. It gets better.

The Teriyaki Beef Steak – caramelized onions and mushrooms, gooey provolone, teriyaki sauce and secret seasoning on a toasty Amoroso hoagie – made me wonder if Chef Morimoto was slinging those sandwiches. Talk about an amazing cheesesteak with its slightly sweet and tangy bites of deliciousness.

Ruthie’s Rolling Creperie started, well rolling, just a few days ago.

Ruthie’s garnered 50 “likes” in less than five minutes after posting a picture on Facebook of Ruthie’s Rolling Creperie attests it’s going to be something magnifique. The Fruity Nutella – freshly cut strawberries or bananas with Nutella – had me thinking about Paris at this media preview. Tres chic.

You can find Ruthie’s location here.
