Drink This: Bulleit Bourbon Milk Shake
If your head is still spinning from your Kentucky Derby mint juleps and your Cinco de Mayo fiesta, maybe you need an intervention. But until then, why not try a move from something clear to something brown? Something a little old fashioned, something a little Mad Men. Something like, well, an Old Fashioned.
I like to make mine with a little ice, a little sugar, a lot of bourbon, a twist of orange peel and a splash of bitters. Right now, the bourbon is Bulleit, a smooth, mellow sipper with just enough vanilla, dried apricot and baking spice that two fingers’ worth is just about perfect. Bulleit asked me to try their bourbon with a Ruth’s Chris steak. We’ll pay, they said. Ok, I replied. I tried it. You know what’s better? A heavy handed pour over a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream and a whirl in the blender. Makes a hell of a milkshake. If Ruth’s Chris would serve that, I might go back.
