Mexican Sugar, a New Latin Restaurant from Whiskey Cake and Velvet Taco Team, Opening in Plano
Mexican Sugar, a Latin-inspired restaurant from the folks behind Whiskey Cake Kitchen, the Ranch in Las Colinas and Velvet Taco, will open in the space vacated by Coast Global Seafood in the Shops at Legacy in Plano.
Eric Justice will be the executive chef and is an investment partner in the venture. Justice was formerly the corporate chef at P.F. Chang’s but his Dallas ties are strong, with cheffy stents at the Samba Room (I loved that place), Mignon and several Pappas family restaurants.
Jack Gibbons of Fork It Over, the partnership developing Mexican Sugar, says he’s planning on an October opening. “I’m really excited about the tequila program we’ll have at Mexican Sugar,” he told me. Tequila, Mexican sugar…hmmm, sounds more Tex-Mex than Latin. “Nope,” says Gibbons. “This is definitely not going to be Tex-Mex,” and the menu that will cover Latin America, not just Mexico.
