Chef Michael Ehlert resigns from Front Room Tavern
Yet another chef exits University Park’s Front Room Tavern, the marquee restaurant of the Hotel Lumen adjacent to SMU.
Michael Ehlert confirms that he has resigned from the Front Room Tavern, effective later this month. The guy is uber talented; his dynamite cooking wowed me a few weeks ago. I have no doubt he’ll pop back up on our culinary radar soon, though he says he has no immediate plans to lead a kitchen.
The Front Room Tavern has long struggled to find its footing, changing chefs and names as often as Stevie Nicks changes stage outfits. Noting Ehlert’s start last September, the restaurant’s website proclaimed, “NEW NAME, NEW CHEF, NEW MENU, NEW DESIGN.” Guess they won’t need to update that banner quite yet.
Prior to taking over the kitchen at Front Room Tavern, Ehlert worked at Hibiscus and the now-defunt Campo and The Chesterfield.
