Here’s where Canelo Alvarez ate dinner before he knocked out Liam Smith
Before 51,000 fans watched boxer Canelo Alvarez punch out Liam Smith at AT&T Stadium Saturday night, the most dangerous man in boxing ate dinner cooked by the the most talented Italian chef in DFW — and maybe all of Texas.
“He’s a really cool cat,” said Stefano Secchi, who’s gaining quite a strong following himself while cooking at his family’s restaurant, Ferrari’s in Grapevine. Secchi and his kitchen staff cooked for Alvarez at Ferrari’s Friday night. What did Alvarez want? Chicken breasts and an off-the-menu fettucine Alfredo (even though fettucine Alfredo isn’t a true Italian dish). And, since he had already made weight, he also devoured three desserts.
Secchi, who cooked for three years in acclaimed restaurants in Emilia-Romagna (including a long stint at Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy, the number one rated restaurant in the world according to the S. Pellegrino list this year). Secchi has cooked for me and left me speechless. He’ll cook for you, too, especially if you let him know you want something extraordinary.
Even better: find him at Chefs for Farmers this weekend (tickets here), where he’ll be serving handmade pastas in the VIP area.
