Cafe Salsera dumps Caribbean and Salsa themes, switches to New American with Armando Aguilar as new top chef

I guess the Caribbean restaurant with a coffee bar and salsa-dancing theme didn’t work out too well for Cafe Salsera in Deep Ellum; the two-year-old restaurant now has a new menu, new concept and new chef.

And now it’s New American.

But the place seems to have potential, given that they’ve brought in Armando Aguilar as chef. Aguilar is an alum of Knife, CBD Provisions, Dallas Country Club and a few other Dallas haunts, most of them good.

Cafe Salsera’s new one-page menu has some real potential: Corn-buttered salmon, halibut with chorizo, pork with pumpkin mole, for example, and scallops with grilled peaches sound pretty darn good. Most of the entrees clock in under $25. Let’s check it out.
