Zoli’s NY Pizza is now open! Square and round pies with no floppy tips!
If the floppy tipped VPN pizzas at Cane Rosso in Dallas drive you crazy but you love everything else about Jay Jerrier’s pies, then you’re gonna want to check out Zoli’s NY Pizza, the Addison reincarnation of the by-the-slice joint in Oak Cliff that closed a couple of years ago.
I popped by yesterday to try a pie and liked it a lot. Jerrier and top pizzaolo Lee Hunziger have nailed the foldable NY pie game. Theirs is crisp-edged, tangy and blistered in all the right places. The menu offers both square and round pies, both cooked in deck ovens and topped with good quality ingredients like housemade Bolognese, pepperoni that cups in the oven just enough to glisten and pool, and creamy ricotta. There are sandwiches and salads too. But unlike at Cane Rosso, at Zoli’s you can order ranch salad dressing — a condiment Jerrier has long condemned as inappropriate for his pizza.
“We don’t have ranch,” my server says. “But we do have jalapeño ranch. That’s different.”
And watch out for Zoli’s as you approach by car. There’s no direct access approaching from the north, and If you miss the turn into the parking lot from the south, you’re screwed. Traffic and “no U Turn” signs will route you a long way away from your pizzas.
Zoli’s is open for dinner at 5pm tonight and tomorrow, then opens for lunch and dinner daily beginning this Friday.
