Homewood, new restaurant from FT33 chef Matt McCallister, is now under construction in Dallas’ Oak Lawn neighborhood
There’s been a low buzz around Hatch HQ several months that Dallas chef Matt McCallister and a group of investors were taking over the former Beck’s Prime burger space on Oak Lawn Avenue to house a new, casual concept that McCallister had been concocting as he pondered closing his FT33. Though FT33 shuttered in June, McCallister had been dropping clues about a new restaurant he planned to open in Dallas. Details were as thin as blue smoke. Then he started dropping the name of his new project as a hashtag on Facebook: #Homewooddallas.
A few days ago, a noteworthy blip appeared on our radar range. Building permits had been filed and pulled for the former Beck’s Prime space at 4002 Oak Lawn Avenue, adjacent to Highland Park, for a restaurant project named Homewood. Boom. So McCallister and his team have indeed pushed the green Go button on Homewood for real.
The building’s shell has already been cleared, though McCallister wouldn’t share any Homewood details with us. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
