First Look: Yolk, new downtown Dallas breakfast spot, opens today with omelets, pancakes, expansion plans

, a new interloper from Chicago opens today in One Arts Plaza, and owner Taki Kastanis hopes to turn you into a breakfast person.

The casual restaurant now inhabits the old Screen Door space in One Arts Plaza, on the northeast edge of downtown. The bright yellow, orange, white and dark blue color scheme will certainly wake you up. Then it’ll be up to a five-egg omelet, multigrain pancakes or cinnamon roll french toast to get you going. While you won’t find any breakfast tacos or locally sourced ingredients on the menu — yet — Kastanis says he’s considering adding both. (“Well, the chorizo is made in San Antonio,” he allows.)

Nick Roditis is Yolk’s GM; he’s relocated to Dallas, where the Yolk team hopes to open four additional units in the near future. Sites under active consideration: Henderson Avenue, Legacy Town Center in Plano, Sundance Square in Fort Worth. Yolk operates five stores in Chicagoland and one in Indianapolis.
