Radar Range: Dr. Blueberry Organic Blueberry Juice is Amazing
Doctor Ken Fine is passionate about raw foods and organic products. Now he’s also passionate about blueberries.
Once you taste his Dr. Blueberry blueberry juice, you will be, too.
Blueberries are considered a superfood. Fine says they’re anti-oxidants, anti-aging, anti-cancer and promote intestinal health, all of which melds perfectly with the Dallas physician’s focus on eating healthy and treating intestinal disease.
Fine is an academic gastroenterlogist specializing in food sensitivities and intestinal testing, which seems like an odd background for someone who’s also known as Dr. Blueberry.
Fine was running an organic food co-op in Dallas a few years ago, when he unexpectedly discovered that the juice from some blueberries he had purchased tasted amazing. “Wow, I thought, that should be in a bottle,” Fine told me, “so now I bottle it.”
He purchased 30,000 pounds of those organic blueberries from a farmer in LaRue, Texas, and began bottling the juice under the brand name Dr. Blueberry. Fine says his product is the only blueberry juice made from 100 percent organic blueberries, without added flavors or made from a concentrate.
“We squeeze the berries then bottle the juice,” says Fine.
The juice tastes like insanely ripe blueberry jam: concentrated, sweet, fragrant, delicious.
It tastes like the color blue.
Last year, Fine produced nearly 2,000 gallons of Dr. Blueberry. The juice is sold in 10-ounce bottles at select Whole Foods Markets, Market Street and Eatzi‘s for $4.99 a bottle, or through Fine’s Web site, TheOrganicAlternative.com.
Fine has added freeze-dried, powdered blueberries to his product line, something patients suffering from colitis could find helpful. “Blueberry fiber has proven to be a useful in treating colitis, which is one of my specialties,” said Fine.
Want more potency? Fine sells another juice on his Web site, a blend of blueberries and muscat grapes that he says is an even more powerful superfood.
