Gene and Julie, the incredibly successful morning drive time duo on KVIL-FM for eight years, were just dismissed from the station. Good job, but time to go in another direction, they said. So, naturally, Gene and Julie will do what you or I or any newly unemployed person would do. They’re going to open a restaurant. Italian. In Far North Dallas. Red sauce and pasta kind of place, says a chef friend who was approached a few weeks ago but declined the deal. They’re calling it “a rustic, farm-to-table Italian neighborhood restaurant.”

Battuto Italian Kitchen is taking over the ill-fated II Brothers restaurant at 18101 Preston Road. G&J say Battuto will open in February. (Battuto, like soffrito, is a finely chopped flavor base of veggies, btw.)

And don’t forget: you still have time to register for this.
