Noonan and Sepkowitz should have a hit with Mutt’s. The duo are the two guys at the far right of this picture.

The dog days of summer are coming to Dallas early this year– next week, actually. Mutt’s Canine Cantina opens in Uptown next week at Lemmon Ave & Oak Grove Ave. I can’t wait. And neither can my dogs.

Construction on the two-acre dog park and burger shack is almost complete. I toured it yesterday with owners Kyle Noonan and Josh Sepkowitz and came away mightily impressed. Lots of green grass, shaded picnic tables, clever menu, plenty of beer.

Breakfast tacos and Hypnotic donuts, griddled burgers, frozen custard, Henry’s ice cream, doggie dogs (hot dogs for  your dog)…Mutt’s Canine Cantina will be a hit.

The park and outdoor restaurant (no seating inside) open daily at 7 am, then close around midnight. A monthly dog pass will set you back $9.95, though you can buy a daily admission ticket for about half that (people are free; dogs require a ticket).

Noonan and Sepkowitz have thought through nearly every detail. There are separate fenced areas for small dogs and large dogs, all of whom require up-to-date vaccines and must be spayed or neutered. Free wifi, patio misters, park attendants who will pick up your mess (and your dog’s), a dog washing area. And when the Rustic opens next month (with a menu from chefs Matt Balke and Sharon Hage), this area of Uptown will be the coolest hottest place in Dallas.
