Wow, wow, wow did I love Jon Stevens new BADlands restaurant, Stock & Barrel, which Stevens, the chef and owner, calls a “Kitchen Americana.”

I call it a home run.

Stevens, formerly the top chef at Nosh (among others), has set out on his own with this Bishop Arts District venture. Judging from a recent pre-opening preview, Stock & Barrel could top the list of this year’s best new restaurants.

When this place opens Friday, don’t miss his frisee salad, the roasted Windy Farms chicken rubbed with harissa or the crazy good lamb milanese with tender spaetzle.  So much to like here.  If you can’t confirm a reservation, the chef’s counter is an excellent place to snag a seat for supper.
