Hot Date: Today–May 17, Sample Jewish beer, Israeli Wine and Kosher food at Sigels Addison

It’s not even the Sabbath, but Sigels’ Addison store (15003 Inwood Road) is turning into High Holy Day Central tonight.  Jewish beer, a Kosher food truck, Israeli wines–and discounts to make it all come together from 5 pm til 8 pm.

Israeli wines are gaining popularity again because many of them are truly high quality. Tonight, Sigels will be sampling and selling some of the best, including wines from Carmel, Barkan, Psagot and Binyamina.

To paraphrase an old governor of ours, if they were good enough for Jesus, they should be good enough for the Children of Texas.

If your taste runs more toward malty beverages, how about a beer with a Jewish theme?

Salt Lake City has its Polygamy Porter (motto: Why have just one?), so why not add He’Brew craft beers, from San Francisco’s Schmaltz Brewerey (motto: The Chosen Beer) to your list of craft brew oddities.

Yep, today’s your lucky day. Meet and greet reps from Schmaltz’s brewery from 5 pm till 8 pm at Sigels in Addison, where you can taste a few of the beers they’ve Chosen. (They left the Messiah Nut Brown Ale off the list.)

Shmaltz Brewing Company was recently recognized as “Best Craft Brewer” by Beverage World
Magazine at their 2010 BevStar Awards, and ranked by craft beer consumer
website RateBeer.com as one of the 100 “Best Brewers of 2011.”

He-Brews to be Tasted:
Bittersweet Lenny’s Rye Double IPA
(99pts-BeerAdvocate, 98 pts-ratebeer)

Hop Manna IPA
(Gold Medal 2012 World Beer Championships)

Genesis Dry Hopped Session Ale
(Silver Medal 2012 World Beer Championships)

Origin Pomegranite Imperial Amber Ale
(Silver Medal 2012 World Beer Championships)

At the same time, you can grab a snack from Dallas’ first Kosher food truck, K-Wheelz, which will also be at Sigel’s at 5 pm. The menu includes Kosher sausages and hot dogs, plus they tout an Asian sea bass cake that might be tasty. Or not.
