Hot Date: Today is Sailor Jerry Memorial Day

No, it’s not International Talk Like a Pirate Day yet, but it’s close. It’s Sailor Jerry Memorial Day!

Not familiar with Sailor Jerry? How about, you know, Sailor Jerry rum?

Same guy.

Fun Facts about Sailor Jerry: He was a real Navy guy whose real name was Norman Collins, but he’s better known as Jerry, a nickname that relates to being as stubborn as his family’s mule, Jerry. Jerry (the sailor, not the mule) was a tattoo artist who lived in Oahu, Hawaii after WWI and mentored a couple of famous tattoo artists there. His trick: bold colors and sterile needles. Guess he drank a lot, too, because why else would you have a rum named after you?

Anyway, celebrate Sailor Jerry Memorial Day with a SJMD Rum cocktail. Because, really, what else do you have to do today?
