Smoke over Water: Pit master Doug Pickering, formerly of WORK, has moved his BBQ home to Lone Star Marina

Former WORK pit master Doug Pickering has a new home for his excellent smokey brisket, burnt ends, ribs and sausage. Instead of Deep Ellum, he’s now set up camp at Lone Star Marina on weekends, though he’s still negotiating on a permanent location closer to downtown Dallas.

His pit is inside the newly renovated Old Don’s Port Marina gas station-liquor barn-restaurant on Cedar Creek Lake.

“Dine-in or pick up by boat,” Pickering told EscapeHatch. He takes credit cards or cash. Spend $200 and Pickering will set up delivery to you.

No longer affiliated with the WORK people, Pickering uses the “Barbecue Doctor” and “DWP” monikers. Or sd $200 and Pickering will set up delivery to you. If you haven’t tasted Pickering’s ‘cue, you’re in for a treat; I think it’s among the best in Dallas.
