This famous Dallas chef will be serving SPAM corny dogs from a food truck

Dean Fearing is one of the founding father’s of Southwestern food. Now he’s embracing Spam, the Hawaiian treat. Or maybe just the fame that comes with embracing Spam.

Fearing is the Dallas spokeschef for the SPAMERICAN Tour, “a coast-to-coast culinary journey” at which, Spam says in an email to the Hatch, “attendees will be treated to one-of-a-kind complimentary recipe samples created by local chefs, including Food Network Host Sunny Anderson’s Operation SPAM Gravy with Biscuits.

But Spam, always a slick pig, plays loose with the facts, so who knows. They think Fearing is still at the Mansion (“Chef Dean Fearing of The Mansion at Turtle Creek”) and that there’s an H-E-B Plus! in Dallas (“The Tour will be stopping at Stagecoach and H-E-B Plus! in Dallas ).

Either way, Fearing will be cooking and serving his “SPAM Corn Dogs” on Friday, May 20 from 6 – 10PM at Richardson’s Wildflower Arts and Music Festival.

Why the fuss? “This year, the SPAMERICAN Tour is delighted to partner with Operation Gratitude, a volunteer based organization that sends care packages and letters to U.S. Service Members deployed overseas, veterans, wounded soldiers and their families- as well as new recruits and First-Responders here at home. The SPAMERICAN Tour is bringing Operation Gratitude’s letter writing campaign into 16 communities, supporting its “March to a 2nd Million” goal with a $50,000 donation by pledging $1 for every letter written in-market and online at SPAM.com.”

“‘I’ll be bringing the Spam Corndog into the Texas culture, kind of a blend of what we remember about the all the different tastes at the State Fair. It may not be what we eat every day, but we love it when we do!!!” Fearing told me when asked why he’s into the Spamerican Tour.

So there you go.
