Dallas chef Mo Assi launching Crush Taco in Frisco
With a long background as chef at Perry’s Steakhouse and The Capital Grill in his back pocket, chef Mo Assi is breaking out on his own with an edgy taco concept to launch this fall in Frisco.
“I guess you could say I am retiring from the steakhouse game after 12 years and doing my own thing,” Assi told the Hatch. “Crush Taco is inspired from my whole career – the restaurants I’ve worked at, the chefs and cooks I’ve collaborated with, the restaurants I’ve eaten at and the cities and countries I’ve visited. We’re gonna have some fun with this.”
Assi says the working taco menu includes his versions of cochinita pibil, the beautiful slow roasted pork dish from the Yucatan, jerk chicken from a recipe inspired by trips to the Bahamas, “Good ol’ Southern Buttermilk Fried Chicken” in a taco, plus a bone-in pork taco, which sounds weird to me but Assi’s experience with that monster pork chop at Perry’s says he can pull it off.
For dessert, Assi promises tres leeches bread pudding with caramel sauce.
Crush Taco will occupy a space in Parkway Towne Crossing, El Dorado and the Tollway Glass Box Studios is creating the interiors.
